Switching from Firefox to Safari

In recent weeks, I have been experimenting with using Safari as my primary browser. I've been a devoted Firefox user for years now, starting back when I still used Windows. I still believe that Firefox is the best browser to use on a Windows PC, but on a Mac, it has a very clunky feel to it and just doesn't feel like a normal Mac application should. And at least on my MacBook, Safari's startup time beats that of Firefox by a solid few seconds. I enjoy the interface more, and overall I believe that Safari offers a better user experience on the Mac. So, I'll see how this goes and report back if I choose to return to Firefox. But right now, I see myself sticking with Safari.

You won't regret it!

Safari definitely is the best browser for Mac. It's sleek, fast and very solid. I agree with you that Firefox feels very clunky, it's just not made for the Mac in the way Safari is.

Take care!

For the fastest Mac browser that I know of try Sunrise. Its limited and its mostly for developers but its crazy fast. It will never replace any real browser but if you want very quick surfing and have limited time then this is good.

Even on windows I now use Safari as my main browser. On my Mac I've never even considered FF a viable alternative (I tried Camino though, which is very nice as well).
With the introduction of Chrome by Google I feel that Chrome looks and behaves even better than Safari. Let's see whenever it is available on Mac. A big feature for me is that a browser must sync its bookmarks with mobileme.. so it is also up to Apple to implement syncing of bookmarks with Chrome. Until then:
FF.. meh - Safari.. yeh!

I use safari as my primary browser, too! For Mac it's the best choice. Althought I'm afraid to let Google listen and track everything I do on the internet, I will test the new Chrome for Mac if they'll launch it.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I too am very excited in anticipation of the Mac version of Chrome; it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against Safari.

Did you migrate your Firefox history to Safari? If so, how? I'd like to move from Camino to Safari, but only if I can move the years of history I have in Camino (which has the same format as Firefox)...

Ed, I did not migrate my history. I don't really keep my history; I usually delete it and start fresh everyday. Just a habit of mine. Not sure how you would migrate that from Camino.

i did the same thing. Safari is way faster than FF on Mac. I love that fact that its soo list and Macish compared to the clumsy FF...but when chrome releases on Mac, I will switch over :)

I also switched from Firefox to Safari on my MacBook. I really miss the Firefox keyboard shortcuts though.

I'm too dependent on some FF add-ons. Right now I don't think I could make the switch.
